Ovarian Hyper Stimulation Syndrome (OHSS) After A Failed IVF Cycle. Is This Serious?
Hi I have recently had a failed IVF cycle. My first one. I was admitted to hospital twice in same week with OHSS....I had a negative blood test on day 12 of my egg transfer. No repeat test offered. Brown spotting on day 14 of transfer then bleeding but with clots for 4 days and then back to brown spotting for 2. Have had a constant stitch like pain in left side and keep feeling dizzy, hot and very nauseous after eating and have a feeling of feeling full all the time. Im starting to worry what this could be? Regards Dionne
Hi, Welcome to HCM, As you know these are symptoms of OHSS. In mild cases of OHSS, we just have to give supportive and symptomatic treatment. It takes some time to resolve. You must do rest. Keep good hydration. brown spotting, could be due to rupture of Enlarged ovarian cysts, and pain and other symptoms could also be due to large size of bilateral ovarian cysts, or rupture of cysts. You should be under close supervision of your Doctor. Your Doctor should keep on checking electrolytes level, Blood coagulation factors, and vital signs. In next cycle for IVF, your Doctor has to be more cautious, regularly monitoring the levels of Estrogen, and progesterone levels, and wisely deciding the doses of ovulation induction drugs to prevent OHSS. Wish you speedy recovery, and success for next Cycle. Dr H Hamdani
