Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Over the weekend I went to an out of town bachelorette party. We were all pretty drunk. Well me and another girl went into the bathroom together. She was brushing her teeth and I told her that I had forgot my toothbrush and was going to use my finger. She said that I could use hers. Me being drunk and thinking it was harmless I said yes and used her toothbrush to brush my teeth. I googled it the next morning and I guess it is a very bad thing. How likely is it that I could get Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, HIV, or any other problem from sharing a toothbrush? I know that she has had multiple sexual partners. I would like to assume she practices safe sex but I can’t be certain. I am also a breastfeeding mom (I didn’t breastfeed while I had alcohol in my system of course). I am terrified that I will contract something that will harm the health of me and my family. Not sure if this makes a difference but we continued to drink alcoholic beverages afterwards. Could drinking alcohol help kill any viruses? Should I get l get tested? Is the risk low or high?
