Pain, Abnormal Bleeding, Bloating. Ultrasound Shows Fibroid. Hysterectomy Best Option?

I was diagnosed with possible adenomyosis and doctor suggested me to have a hysterectomy. I'm 40, but still feel young and in shape. Hysterectomy just disturbed me and seemed major. I started doing research online on Adenomyosis and Hysterectomies. I did want to get rid iof the pain, abnormal bleeding, and bloating but wanted to see if there was another option. I went to another and got a second opinion. He did an ultra sound and found golf ball sized fibroid. He said it did not look like Adenomyosis and I believe he said because you would see a lot of blood flow through out the uterus and don't see a lot of that. I'm scheduled to have a d and c next week. I've been reading online and I hope the d and c is with hysterscopic. I just want to know if this is the best option? How often do the fibroids come back? Will he be able to tell for sur if I definitely don't have Adenomyosis when get D and C?

hello user,
The fibroid is a benign mass inside the lumen of uterus having a large surface area causing severe bleeding. It is different from adenomyosis, which mainly present as severe pain in lower abdomen during menses.

As far as D and C is concerned, I dont think the procedure will cure fibroid( it may help in removing some of the adenomyotic lesions of uterus), the treatment of which depends on the size of fibroid, and decision of surgeon; if its large hysterectomy is to be done and if its small, other laproscopic procedure like laproscopic myomectomy is done, if you want to preserve uterus.

For Adenomyosis, you can refer to nearby gynecologist, for getting some hormonal pills to reduce the size of lesions. The terminal treatment of adenomyosis is also hysterectomy.

hope my info helped you
