Pain From Ankle To Knee, Due To Titanium Rod In Right Leg As Spiral Broke. Help?
I have a titanium rod in my lower right leg due to a spiral break and it is causing me a lot of pain. It was ok most of the summer but has been very painful the last few weeks. Each year it seems to get worse especially when the weather starts to change. Is there anything I can do? It happened about 9 years ago so I would imagine removal of the rod would be very difficult. But would it help? Motrin seems to help in about 1/2 hour but I have to take it every 4 hours and it makes me very sick to my stomach. I take vitamins and fish oils etc. as well as glucosamine condriten could any of that make it worse. I am in such a quandary as to what I can do for the pain from my ankle to my knee mostly on the sides. Will exercises or stretches help? What can I do? Please help me! Thanks, Jane
Hi, Your quality of life at present seems to be significantly affected by the pain in your leg. For this reason I suggest you see an orthopedic specialist for investigation and advice. There is a possibility that removing the rod will be an option and may relieve your pain. Regards, Dr K A Pottinger, MBChB FRCA
