Pain In Right Foot, Spreading From Toe To Knee, Swollen. Diagnosed As Minor Arthritis, Tarsal Tunnel. Taking Nsaids. Suggestions?

hi, Have experience alot of pain in my right foot with pain that travels up to the back of my knee. The pain seems to come from the big toe and then the pain is widespread. The orthopaedic foot doctor did not see any alarming problems other than mild arthritis, and some minor congenital deformities as he put it. Which were a larger than normal space between my big toe and the toe next to it. I have been to podiatrist and have been told I have tarsal tunnel, arthritis in my ankle and once he told me I had a stress fracture and I wore a boot for 6 weeks. I am so frustrated. I do feel I have some type of inflammation which causes this pain and I forgot to mention my foot stays slightly swollen all the time. Taking NSAIDS helps a little, but I don't like to be taking them all the time.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.
Arthritis means damage to the articular surfaces of the bones. This is generally a chronic (long lasting) problem. Any form of arthritis tend to produce pain during movement of that involved joint and rest relieves pain.
NSAIDs temporarily relieve pain but the root cause of arthritis should be investigated. So i suggest you to consult an orthopedic surgeon for evaluation.
Hope this helps
