Pain In Throat While Swallowing. Had Sore Throat, Ear Pain Weeks Back, Taken Augumentin. Suggestions?
Hi Dr. Grief. For about a week, it has been very painful to swallow. It tends to be ok during the day but starts getting worse before going to bed in the evening and then gets even worse through the night. The pain is mostly on the back left side of my throat. For some side info, I was suffering from a sore throat and ear pain a few weeks ago. The strep test was negative but I had a left ear infection. I took Augmentin for 10 days. The ear pain is gone but there is still some plugged feeling remaining. Thank you in advance for any help!
Looks like you had a throat infection for sometime and have taken Augmentin for 10 days. Presently you still have some plugging feeling in your throat and associated pain which increases at night.
It is possible that you are having another infection (probably viral origin) or any other bacterial infection. While viral infections are self limited, bacterial infection needs medication. I would suggest you to get a throat swab examination to isolate and bacteria.
For the plugging feeling you could thake some throat drops.
Hope this helps. Dr Anjana Rao
