Hi there I m Ernest The injury is that of a slightly pulled Adductor Magnus and maybe the Longus it’s difficult to say. I feel the pain at the back of the knee and along it to the groin , and also ache across the groin. I have ruled out hernias , as I have been to the doctor and physiotherapist . I started throwing the hammer for the first time April 2012, but it’s only now that this injury has appeared when I’m really getting power from the double support phase. I’m just in from a light training session where I was just doing drills and standing throws with this it was fine but after a few slow 1 turn throws, I put more power into it I felt pain in the adductor and groin when turning on the heel and bringing the right knee close and round fast to the double support phase. I of course stopped. That was the end of my training for the day. (I hate it, it really hinders my training) In the gym I do all the adduction/abduction exercises and working round the core and legs with resistance. This has been niggling for about a month now and as it’s an injury that seems to be unique to the hammer (I have been training since 10 year old in athletics then for many years in martial arts and all types of weight training then back into shot and discus 3 years ago then the hammer as I mentioned) As we are coming into the outdoor field season, I need to get this fixed. Can you advise?
