Hello and welcome to HCM,
The ultrasonographic features that you have mentioned- hyperechoic strands, hyperechoic foci and lobularity suggest a chronic diseaase process in the
pancreas like chronic
pancreatitis as has been suggested by the sonographer.
The
pancreatic duct showing hyperechoic wall may be a part of chronic inflammtory process in the pancreas.
The pancreatic duct diameter of 2 mm is within normal range.
So, the entite picture is of chronic pancreatitis with patent pancreatic duct.
As a complication of chronic pancreatis cysts can develop.
So, you need to be vigilant for any kind of
abdominal pain and report to your doctor in case you develop any abdominal symptoms.
The cause for chronic pancreatitis needs to be sought out. The most common causes include gall stone and
alcoholism.
See that you do not have these risk factors.
Long standing chronic pancreatitis can compromise the pancreatic functions and thus disturbances in digestion.
Thanks and take care.
