Paroxismal Atrial Fibrillation And Elevated BP. Taking Diovan, Metoprolol, Warfarin. Legs Swolled. Side Effects Of Medication?

My husband, age 75, has Paroxismal atrial fibrilation and elevated blood pressure. Currently is taking Diovan 80 mg, Metoprolol succinate 25 mg and Warfarin 5 mg (last 10 months). BP and Afib is under control for the last 3 months. Monthly Warfarin checks have been all good. Lately, for about 2 weeks his legs below knees are swolen more then usual. Could one of his meds cause this effect? Thank you. Irena

Hi, thanks for posting.
The swollen legs are not caused by the medications. None of these medications has side effects. Despite the INR levels, your husband has a problem with the coronary circulation, which has caused Paroxismal atrial fibrilation, which causes a heart insufficiency, which itself causes the swelling of the legs. I recommend taking a diuretic ( consult with your doctor), an examination of the coronary arteries. If there is a block of the coronary arteries, I would recommend a bypass and a stent to replace the blocked part of the artery. If your husband follows these steps, he will come back to his normal life. Wish your husband a quick recovery!
