Partially Blocked Feeling In Ear, Noticed Difference In Breathing And Decrease In Hearing. Cause And Cure?

Irregularly I get a feeling in my right ear that it is partially blocked; i.e. that the eardrum remains in a closed position. I can feel a difference in my breathing [seems harder]; somewhat of a decrease in my hearing in that ear. It can get so bad as to feel that what I am saying stays inside my head and I am talking to myself. Others tell me they don t necessarily even notice it in my speaking [unless it is someone who knows me very well; they seem to notice when it is going on]. It starts any old time and also stops any old time. Dr. Bernie Wiebe

Hello

Thanks for writing to H.C.M.

By your query I came to Know that you are having Eustachian tube dysfunction, and this is keeping your middle ear in negative pressure and thus by retacting ear drum which results in ECHO of spoken sound.

This usually happens whenever there is cold, sore throat or sinusitis is already giving infection to pharynx and in the pharynx lies the opening of eustachian tube.

To confirm it and to manage it you should do-

1- X-Ray Paranasal sinuses.

2- Culture and sensitivity of throat swab.

Till you are in waiting for specialist you may take-

1- Antibiotic.

2- anti hitaminic.

3- Steam inhalation.

4- Don't put any ear drop in ear, & keep ear clean and dry.

Hope this will help you.

Regards.
