Patient Placed On Ice Blanket, Given Paralyzing Medicines Post Heart Attack. When Should Cold State Reverse To Hot Compress?
78 yr old woman with heart attack , placed on ice blanket (for how long)? Given paralizing med (named)? When should her paralized state subside back to normal? When should she have the cold state (ice) reversed to hot compress? When should tests begin for brain activity and or meds administered for stimulating increased brain activity? Thank You for clarity!
It appears that this woman underwent a cooling or hypothermia protocol for a cardiac arrest; usually the intention is to bring the person's core body temperature to 32 C, and once that is reached (for most patients around 18-24 hours) then a gradual rewarming process starts. Neurologic function cannot be accurately assessed until rewarming has been completed and sedation has been weaned off.
