Can Overdosed Digoxin Cause Inappropriate Talks?

Hello I had a heart operation at three months. I was given to much Digoxin and I overdosed twice. I had a cardiac arrest. There was a lawsuit and in the findings it was it stated through years of doctor check ups and reviews of myself, that I had suffered emotional effects in frontal lobe. My parents divorced when I was two. I was sexually molested starting at age five until 12 by a woman. I have suffered and do still, suffer some of of those effects in particular. I have made inappropriate comments to my girlfriends about other women. I cry a lot at a drop of a hat. I get very attached to some girlfriends and I cannot let them go. What is the cause of this? Could it be the medicine that I overdosed on, which thus in the report retarded development of frontal lobe. Or mostly from the abuse? Thank you for your time and your advice. Zach

Hi,

There is presently no study, which can corelate under development of frontal lobe to use of digoxin. It can be impacted by a range of factors, including genetics, environment and experiences. Studies have shown that a lack of stimulation and neglect in childhood can lead to underdeveloped frontal lobes. Other causes may be use of alcohol, substance abuse, sleep deprivation and head injuries.

An under developed frontal lobe usually manifest in several ways. Most common sign is impulsivity, where an individual struggles to inhibit their actions & make good decisions. Other symptoms may include poor planning, difficulty with problem solving, a lack of emotional control & difficulty in task initiation. Definitely, your history of neglect & physical abuse, seem to be a major cause of your underdeveloped frontal lobe. The symptoms/ problems, you are suffering from, are due to only your underdeveloped frontal lobe.

As the development of frontal lobe is mainly in childhood and during adolescence period. Almost nil or very minimal development of frontal lobe is there after age of 25 or so. Hence, to sum up the situation, there is minimum likelihood of the development of your frontal lobe. But definitely psychological counselling, behavior modification techniques, cognitive behavior therapy and stress management therapy can definitely help you to make your life more easy and purposeful. But this all is to be done under guidance of a psychiatrist.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
