Pcod Since Long Tears. Weight Increased Drastically. Periods Only After Taking Birth Control Pills. On Diet. Blood Tests Done. Chances Of Conceiving?

Hi Doctors,

My son is 6 months 10 days old. He has been suffering from diarrhea from last 20 days. Initially, his pediatrician gave him zinc for 4 days, econorm pro-biotic powder for 3 days, ORS, and ezinappy cream n absorb powder for rashes my baby got due to infection. When there was no improvement, then he suggested for stool routine which showed "Entamoeba histolytica" in his stool. Doctor prescribed Metrogyl syrup 3 dose of 2ml per day for 10 days. Zinc was also continued with ORS.
My baby showed improvement on this treatment and loose motion n infection was in control. Now it has been only 3-4 days after treatment, I got his stool routine done 3 days back just to check if his infection is gone or not because his stools looked still infected (greenish-sticky stool with water). Report was clean, there were no parasites in the report.
But, yesterday he pooped 5 times and have had nappy rash in the night. Not sure if he is having that infection again and I have to start the treatment all over again. what should i do now?
Is entamoeba histolytica common infection in 6 months old babies? what causes it? My son puts everything in his mouth. can it be the reason of infection?
Please guide.

Hello ma'am.

Your childs infection is a common one and takes place due to eating contaminated food or drink. It is always best to complete and discontinue a course of antibiotics only once the infection has been adequately addressed, discontinuation of an antibiotic without adequately addressing the infection will lead to a re-infection.

So it does seem like the infection is still present, so take your child and visit a child specialist.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes.
