Period Is Delayed. Was On Augmentin. Can Antibiotic Cause This?

Hi Mrs. Nirja Chawla,

I am was on Augmentin for 2 weeks and I am experiencing delay in period.
My period cycle is usually 28-30 days and last cycle started on April 26th. I started Augmentin roughly on 1st May and medication continued till 15th May. My period is late by almost a week and I am worried. Is it possible that antibiotic can delay the cycle?

So far your periods were regular 28 to 30 days. You took Augmentin from the 4th day of your LMP for 15 days. What was the indication for Augmentin. I assume that probably some infection somewhere in the body. Augmentin or any antibiotic have no effect on your menstrual cycle. If there is a delay the possibility may be due to the reactions induced in your body because of the antibiotic's action against the bacteria.
Or if you had any unprotected sex do a HPT to rule out pregnancy.
Also note that some antibiotics can affect the effectiveness of oral contraceptives.
