Pilonidal Cyst Removed Through Surgery. Can Cause Back Pain, Painful Bowel Movement, Numbness In Legs? Preventive Measures?
I have had a pilonidal cyst removal surgery once and I'm 99.9% sure I have another one. Could that cause severe total back pain, painful bowel movements, and numbness in my legs? Are chronic cysts dangerous? How can I prevent them in the future? After my first cyst I made sure to avoid sitting for long periods of time and I am obsessed with cleanliness. I'm not hairy, nor am I over weight. I'm very active. Could this be related to my Von Wildabrans disease?
Hi !Good evening. I am Dr Shareef answering your query.
Pilonidal cyst is notorious in coming back again, for which there can be very many causes, like 1) accumulation of blood in the wound giving rise to infection and abscess formation, which is very difficult to eradicate, 2) residual hair or foreign body remaining in the wound.
This can cause painful bowel movements because of its proximity to the peri anal area, but this may not be responsible for total back pain and numbness in your legs. For these symptoms, you will have to get investigated like an MRI of back, and might have to consult a local physician/neurologist of your area. As such you have to get yourself examined by your family physician/surgeon to be sure if it is a recurrent pilonidal sinus or otherwise.
