Pilonidal
cyst should be ideally removed by surgery (
incision and drainage). What you are experiencing is an acute infection of the cyst (
abscess) and hence you are experiencing pain. At this acute stage, it is not advisable to get operated.
You need to take a course of antibiotics and
analgesic drugs so that the infection subsides. Following this, it can be removed by surgery.
Ideally, the operation can be performed under
local anesthesia.
Yes, to decrease the intensity of pain, it can be performed under short acting general anesthesia (GA).
