Following is my Wife { age 22} CULTURE & SENSITIVITY / SPUTUM CULTURE . test report, Regarding dry cough from last two months.Please explain me details of this report. MICROSCOPIC APPEARANCE: GRAM STAINS : Epithelial cells : 2-3/ phf .... ORGANISM :Gram negative diplococci plenty. Gram positive cocci in chains plenty. Gram positive cocci in clusers few. Z.N. STAINS : no acid bacilli seen..... CULTURE : Sheep blood agar , MacConkey agar, Selective media. ...35 degree celcius/ 48 hours/ Aerobic. ORGANISM ISOLATED : Growth of normal flora in culture.

This sputum report indicates that there is bacterial infection in the lungs.
There is no Tuberculosis.
So, a course of a higher antibiotic will cure the condition, nothing to worry.

Hi,
basically any patients with longer duration of cough should get evaluated for tuberculosis. Here ur report suggests no tuberculosis (ZN stain shows no acid fast bacilli).
Ur above report suggests mixed infections(gram negative and positive). take one complete course of antibiotics and she will be fine. take additional medications also like cough syrup and anti-histaminics.

Your wifes sputum shows gram positive organism that means she has bacterial infection.so antibiotic is the treatment of choice and that depends on which antibiotic that organism is sensitive. Consult your physician for starting of antibiotic. Don't worry take care.
