Hi Welcome to HCM JAK2 test is essential for diagnosis of polycythemia vera, as raised Hct, RBC, Platelets etc can also occur in other myeloprolifative disorders or sometimes in secondary polycythemia. Mortality occurs generally due to complications like thrombosis, haemorrhages, myelofibrosis or progression to acute leukmia. According to one study, the rate was 3.7/100 Thanks..
