Pontiac Fever is called that because almost all of the employees of the Oakland County Health Department (in Pontiac, MI) came down with an unknown (at that time) illness in 1968. They closed the health department and sent people from the CDC in Atlanta to investigate. It turned out to be what was later named Legionnaire's disease when people in Philadelphia, I think, came down with the same thing but it wasn't tied in with "Pontiac Fever" until later. It was caused by mold in the air conditioning in both places. Legionnaire's disease is the popular name, but didn't occur until years later. I was one of the employees of the health department that came down with Pontiac Fever and we received a letter from the CDC after Legionnaire's disease was connected with Pontiac Fever, stating that the two diseases were one and the same.
hey it is not the AC that is causing it, its the poor maintanance of AC. Even i work in AC office, from last 10 yaers, we never had these kind of things, only occasional cold an dcough. See that the AC is cleaned and properly maintained, to avoid insects and bacteria growing in it, which might be causing these. Report to housekeeping about it.
Dont be crazy.. Pontiac fever is related to infection throught AC and poor maintanance.
