Positive For Opiates And Went Through Withdrawals. Prescribed With Vicoden For Back Injury. Is It Safe To Take In Last Trimester?

I am a social worker, and I was referred a client for a substance abuse assessment. Her son was born 7 mo ago positive for opiates, and went through withdrawals--and removed from home. Mother me her doctor prescribed her vicoden for a back injury, and I don t think a doctor would prescribe someone vicoden in her last trimester. Please reply

Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
It is best to avoid taking any narcotic pain killer right now. Bed rest and hot fomentation and local analgesic gel application will help in reducing her back pain. She can get muscle relaxants prescribed.
I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you.
