Post Carpal Tunnel Surgery, Why Do I Have A Sharp Pain In My Knuckle?

I had carpal tunnel surgery two years ago.
For about 6 months, I get a sharp pain at the knuckle at the base of my pinky. A lump appears above my wrist joint on the side of my wrist. I ice it and brace it, but the pain lasts for a couple of days until the next episode. I don't have to be doing anything strenuous to cause this to happen.

Hello,
It seems you may have the ganglion cyst in the wrist on the medial side.
Although many ganglion cyst produce no other symptoms, if a cyst puts pressure on the nerves that pass through the joint, it can cause pain, tingling, and muscle weakness.
Post carpel tunnel release surgery may not be cause for this pain.
Just a physical examination is enough to diagnose the Ganglion cyst.
Because it is a fluid filled cyst, thus will not show in X-ray of wrist joint.

As you have symptoms like, Immobilization is the initial treatment.
Activity often causes the ganglion to increase in size and also increases pressure on nerves, causing pain.
A wrist brace or splint may relieve symptoms and cause the ganglion to decrease in size. As pain decreases, exercise to strengthen the wrist and improve range of motion.

If the pain persists even after conservative management, then only surgery like excision of cyst is essential.

Hope this helps.
