Postmenopausal, Diagnosed UTI. Prescribed Antibiotics Of Bactrim. Taken UTA Capsule. Sufficient?
I am a 59 woman post menopausal and was diagnosed with a UTI and was prescribed the antibiotic Cipro for 7 days. However, after completing I still felt the infection was not gone. A second antibiotic of Bactrim was prescribed and I took it for 9 days. On the 10th day I still felt the pressure and like I had an inferno inside. I returned to the doctor's office and it was determined I no longer had the infection. It was suggested the discomfort I am feeling might be from inflammation. I was prescribed Estrace cream and will be using it for a month. I guess my concern is that I did not realize it was a synthetic female hormone until after I picked it up from the pharmacy and began reading the information provided. I have never taken hormones. Per instructions I am to insert 1 gram 3 times a week for the first week, 1 gram 2 times a week for the second week, and 1 gram for two weeks. Being I have never been prescribed this drug before is this customary to treat symptoms of a UTI? I have only inserted 1 gram and am scheduled for second today. In between these days I took a UTA capsule which in prior infections has helped with the above symptoms. But during the course of the infection I got no relief from the UTA capsule. So now the discomfort has subsided but I don't know if it is because of the Estrace cream or UTA. I am concerned that using the Estrace cream may not be necessary to continue but would like your opionion.
Hi, During menopause there is depletion of female hormone like estrogen causing some atrophic changes in vagina giving rise to atrophic vaginitis. As now your UTI is cleared, this might be the cause of having your present urinary problem. There is no problem applying this hormonal cream as this is a female hormonal cream. It will have beneficiary effect on your problem. Ok and take care.
