Pregnant. Chest Pain, Weakness In Body, Breathlessness. Have Well Controlled Hyper Active Thyroid. Help

hi Doc.

I am 28 weeks+2 days pregnant now, have underlying condition called hyper-active thyroid which is monitored carefully and everything is fine so far. My last check was almost 5 weeks ago, its fine, both thyroid and the baby.

For last few days, I experienced heart problem, which I had before. Symptoms are: chest pain, weakness all over the body, short of breath. Especially when I just wake up. I need to lie flat for while before I can sit up, and I need to sit up for a while before I can stand up, and sometimes I had to lie flat again after stand up.

Please help.

Hello, I would be happy to help you with your question.

There could be two things going on. First, women commonly experience reflux related symptoms that are worse when you have been lying down. For this you can talk with your doctor about antacids. Second, your hyperthyroid state requires close monitoring. Even though you had a recent normal evaluation, given the severity of your symptoms, you need re-evaluation and a better look at your heart with an EKG and likely an ultrasound of the heart as well.

I hope that this helps and good luck!
