Pregnant. Had Light Bleeding And US Showed No Fetal Heartbeat. Given Dydrogesterone After Another Scan Where Heartbeat Was There

Hi, I am on my my 7th week of pregnancy today. My first pre-natal is on my 6th week - 2 days after my check-up I had light bleeding was rushed to hospital. That night, the baby's heartbeat is not blinking at all during the vaginal ultrasound. The white figure was just steady and I was told of miscarriage but had been advised to do another ultrasound early in the morning before they can advise the next step. The next day the baby's heartbeat is blinking again although I can see that it is faint compared to its first check-up I was told that the baby is still there. I was only given Dydrogesterone 10mg and nothing else. I still take my folic acid, calcium, prednaforte supplement. I am also drinking Anmum twice a day and been eating healthy food. Is there any way that can stop the bleeding and what really causes it? Thanks for your advise.

Hi,
Thanks for writing in to us.

There are many reasons behind bleeding in pregnancy and the majority of the 1 in 10 women who experience it go on to have perfectly healthy babies.

Many women automatically presume they are witnessing the start of a miscarriage when they bleed during pregnancy, and sadly for some that is the case. However, there are many other causes for blood loss during pregnancy and it's surprisingly common for women to experience it during the first trimester when their body is rapidly changing and adapting to being pregnant.

Many causes of bleeding can be identified and rapidly dealt with but in some cases women can experience blood loss without any identifiable cause

Breakthrough bleeding around the time of your usual period and usually occurs anytime up to the fourth week of pregnancy. Other common causes are vaginal infections, implantation bleeding and cervical erosion which is the result of the egg firmly settling itself in your womb and your cervix starting to soften.

Please discuss the cause of your bleeding with your gynecologist and stay under strict medical supervision as necessary.

Hope this helps
