Pregnant. Have Had Hypothyroidism Since Birth. On Increasing Doses Of Thyroxine. What Is Going On?

I have had hypothyroidism since birth and am now 34 and pregnant myself I am 38 weeks and have just had my thyroxine reduced to 125 mcg daily since pregnancy have been on 150 then 200 then 175 and now 125 is this normal and what should my ranges be? Also how often can I have a thyroid function test. Is every four weeks too little to monitor change. I am concerned about my baby's health with all the changes. Is it too late to be re-referred to an obstetrician?

Hello
thanks for your query.
It is normal to have your thyroid function tests fluctuate during pregnancy.
Your TSH levels should be less than 3.
You can titrate the dosages accordingly in concert with an endocrinologist ideally.
The TFT should be checked atleast every 6 weeks.
Do not worry as long as the values are normal.
take care.

OB & GYN Specialist Dr. Dr. Ahmed Bahaa's  Response
Dear user, welcome to healthcare magic.
You need not to worry. You may need to change your dosage during pregnancy according to thyroid functions, just like what happened to you.
Thyroid functions should be repeated every 4-6 weeks. TSH should be within the normal range.
As long as you have adequate replacement and the thyroid functions are within the normal range, your baby is ok.
Your requirements may decrease after delivery according to thyroid functions. Thyroxine is excreted in breast milk in very low concentrations and is compatible with breast feeding.
Good luck. Dr. Ahmed Bahaa.
