Pregnant. High BP. Prescribed Metoprotol. Any Ill Effects To The Baby?
My daughter is 6 months pregnant and her blood pressure is high. The doctor was concerned about her top number. He put her on metoprotol for this. My daughter read the paperwork and was scared to death. She does not want to harm the baby. Can you give us some peace of mind that this medicine will not harm the baby
Hi, Welcome to Healthcaremagic, I have gone through your daughter's history, she is having Gestational High Blood pressure To answer your question Metoprolol is in category C, I am sure your doctor must have assessed risk and benefit of use. Commonly Labetalol and alpha methyl dopa are used safely in pregnancy. Please discuss with your Physician and Gynecologist to find out what is best for her. It is more important to maintain normal blood pressure to prevent other complications. Hope this information helps. Take very good care. Good Luck. Dr.Akhilesh Dubey M.D.
