i am 28 wks pregnant...age-26 yrs , weight-55 kgs ,height-5 ft, my doctor has told me that me i m having protein deficiency & if the same cannot be overcome she would give the protein by drip, i dont want drip. Ultrasound reveals that my baby growth is one week less & clinically dr says it is 2 weeks less. Can you pls suggest me the way thru which this deficiency can be overcome in a week by eating fruits & vegtables or other products.I LIve in Delhi,India
Hi Divya,
Growth retardation is a subjective diagnosis and needs to be confirmed by making sure you have got your dates right. A 1st trimester ultrasound can really help us in dating.
If the growth is getting delayed, we need a scan to look at the placenta. Inadequate nutrition can definitely cause growth retardation. You dont need a drip till you have a protein losing enteropathy. Instead, you could have a high protein diet ( plenty of dal, legumes, cottage cheese, tofu, eggs and non vegetarian items)
Please do get a second opinion. I dont think you're seeing the right physician
Regards
Dear Divya,
As you told here , firstly I can assure you dont worry too much, it is a very common problem in india now a days. With the advancement of science now we have a certain option to supplement protein directly instead of via the food. As your doctor said drip is a option but PROTEIN POWDER is now available in market which is just like other health drink.
Just go to the medicine shop, bring one, mix it with water and drink it.
It also available in several flavour also. just pick your favourite.
Now a days atheletes are also using it.
As per the rule I cant name here any specific brand, just search the net you will get a thousand of names.
Consult your doctor before buying this.
BEST OF LUCK.
