Pregnant, Emotional Stress. Can Stress Affect Baby?

Hi, I am 20 weeks pregnant and I am going through a really difficult time in my life. My husband and I are having problems and I am constantly crying, there are days where I am not eating as much as I probably should and due to the stress, I am often going to the bathroom. I do see my gynecologist on a regular basis. I would just like to ask whether my emotional stress can affect the baby in a negative way.

Hello
Welcome to HCM

Stress and anxiety at any time during pregnancy may have harmful effects on baby. You and your husband are going through some problem and this results in frequent crying spells which is a form of stress. Please avoid the anxiety and stress because it may affect the developing fetus. I would not advise any medicines for this problem unless severe. Try to decrease the fights. Try to spend time in relaxing yourself by yoga, meditation, progressive muscle relaxation techniques, breathing exercises etc. Don't think one thing again and again.

Thanks

Hi,
thanks for using healthcare magic.
I have gone through your available history.
Yes, Stress itself as well as its effects on your body can affect the baby badly.
Sometimes pregnancy blues are common.
You should consult psychiatrist for detailed evaluation. Doctor may advise for Psychotherapy or councelling session. in extreme cases drugs like antidepressants may be needed.
Meanwhile you can go yourself by stress management techniques like relaxations , yoga meditation.
hope you will have wonderful, healthy baby.
thanks
