Pregnant On Insulin For Gestational Diabetes. Numbness Of Tongue, Inner Cheeks And Lips While Eating. Causes?
I am 32 years old and 32 weeks pregnant with my first child. I have gestational diabetes and I am on insulin . For the past 5 weeks or so I have been experiencing numbness in my mouth while I m eating. My tongue , inner cheeks and lips go numb and tingly, It feels like I ve just swished with ambesol or something. I doesn t happen very often, only 4 or 5 times in the past 5 weeks and it has only happened at dinner, not at breakfast or lunch. The only pattern that I have been able to identify is that it seems to happen after I have had a blood sugar low but I mentioned it to my diebatic nurse and she had never heard of such a thing.
The symptoms you have mentioned happen in neuroapthy due to diabetes but these occuring in mouth are a bit strange. Tingling , numbness of hands and feet are the usual complaints and happen when a patient of diabetes has uncontrolled blood sugar levels.
Still to ensure everything is fine you should consult an endocrinologist for the same.
Besides this its your first pregnancy and a high risk one too as you are case of gestational diabetes. So i would like you to see your obstetrician regularly for antenatal checkups, keep a proper record of your daily blood sugar levels fasting and post meals.
Maintain a diabetic diet with foods having low glycemic index.
keep a record of your weight.
Excess weight gain is not a good sign and should alert you.
strange you say that, because I went to have the glucose test today and after drinking the glucose, I got dizzy and my mouth has been numb all day, I have never had this problem until I drank that stuff! I am32 weeks pregnant an was just doing the test they make you do
