Pregnant, Stomach Pain, Taking Naturogest And Emfolic DHA. Advice?

Hi, My wife is 1 month pregnant. She is having stomach pain, its coming and going away in 2-3 seconds. but it is very strong pain as per her. We had gone to doctor, he said, no need to worry just do sonography after 8 days from now. he has given two types of tablets 1) Naturogest 200mg and 2) Emfolic DHA . Please advise. Thanks, Niranjan

Hello there..

Any pain abdomen in pregnancy is to be evaluated.
In your case , it can be due to simple gastritis (acidity) , or something serious like threatened abortion.
Other causes of pain abdomen can be due to ectopic pregnancy(pregnancy elsewhere than in uterus), or surgical causes like cholecystitis & cholelithiasis (gall bladder inflammation with stones) , renal stones , fibroid uterus and ovarian cysts.
So i suggest you get your wife's ultrasound at the earliest. You say she is one month pregnant which might be too early to visualize a pregnancy on ultrasound but with transvaginal ultrasound it can be done as early as 4weeks. But TVS would only rule out ectopic pregnancy. For ruling out other above mentioned causes of pain, you need to have a transabdominal scan which is beneficial for knowing the pregnancy also only after 5weeks.
For now you can continue the medications given to your wife by her doctor ie Naturogest which is a progesterone tablet and helps support early pregnancy and relaxes uterus relieving pain.
EMFOLIC DHA is folic acid tablet with mineral DHA which is essential for all pregnancies in first trimester.
If she has burning in the upper mid abdomen(epigastric region) with retching and bad taste in mouth, then it suggests gastritis which is very common in pregnancy and can be treated with antacids like Digene syrup or Mucaine gel.

take care
