Pregnant, Urinalysis Shows Pus Cells, Advised Urine Culture. Is It Harmful To Baby ?
Good afternoon Doctors. I am 29 weeks pregnant and worried about my Urinalysis result. RBC 1-3/ hpf and PUS CELLS 3-6/hpf. My OB advised me to do urine culture; But while reading your answers to same questions as mine; less than 10/hpf pus cells is within normal. I am a bit worried, it might be harmful to baby if I have infection. I need your opinion about this. Thank you.
Hello user, Pregnancy causes numerous changes in the woman’s body, hormonal and mechanical changes increase the risk of urinary stasis and vesicoureteral reflux leading to urinary tract infection(UTI).If the UTI goes untreated, it may lead to a kidney infection. Kidney infections may cause early labor and low birth weight. If your doctor treats a urinary tract infection early and properly, the UTI will not cause harm to your baby.Consult your OB for further management. Hope it helped u.
