Pregnant With Kidney Issue. Have Fluctuating BP, Increased Creatinine, Low WBC Count. GIven Alphadopha, Pregnasafa. Help
I am a kidney patient with 26 weeks pregnancy. I was admitted because of fluctuating BP rising as high as 170/110. On the 4th day of admission, I was given 250 mg Alphadopa. After a hour or so, my blood was tested & they found that 1. my creatinine increased from 1.4 to 1.8 (cmpared to the last test done 10 days before) 2. My WBCs increased from normal to 26,000.
After that I was given antibiotics IV (2) which reduced my WBC count to 19,600. I was gven 2 more bottles. Expecting another blood test today. Following are the BP tablets that I am taking in a day: 1. Nicardia 10 mg - 3 tablets 2. Pregnasafe- 3 tablets 3 Alphadopa 250 mg - 6 tablets My question: 1. Taking so much Alphadopa is ok? Does it cause the WBCs to rise? I don't have any indication of infection like fever etc. Please explain
Hello, I would be happy to help you with your question.
You are an extremely complicated pregnant patient with underlying kidney disease, renal failure, and hypertensive disease concerning for preeclampsia. These questions are more appropriately directed to your high risk team. Ask:
1. What is the maximum dose of Alpha-dopa daily?
2. Have you checked for preeclampsia?
3. When are we going to scan the baby?
4. Are you considering steroids to mature the baby's lungs?
I hope that this helps. If you have more questions, please click on "ASK ME A QUESTION" link above to directly ask me a question!
