Preop Ekg Done. What Does Left Atrial Abnormality Mean?
I had a preop ekg on thursday. my preop appt with the surgeon was friday. he sent me to a cardiologist because the hospital ekg (or the ekg he did on friday) said possibly left atrial abnormality and anterosepital infarction . what does possible left atrial abnormality mean precisely. the cardiologist said the anterosepital infarction means a previous heart attack or it could be a normal ekg for me and that there was no past heart attack. my surgery is supposed to be on tuesday, if he can clear me by monday after the echo and treadmill tests he ordered, to begin with and hopefully end with.
Yes, you are right. You will need and ECHO and TMT.
EKG is often a pattern recognition. Q waves in leads suggest infarction. In anterior leads, similar patterns may also be from Hypertrophic Obstructive Cardio Myopathy, misplaced leads and so on. Hence the need for further tests.
Left atrial abnormality can be a conduction defect / more likely increased volume or pressure changes in the chamber (usually secondary to the left ventricular problems). Further tests will shed light.
Take care
Wishing speedy recovery
God bless
Good luck
