Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 17 and have been diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy which is being investigated. I have been given fluoxetine by my GPS. For the past month I have had side effects with these tablets such as nausea, memory loss, loss of appetite etc. But since last week I have been feeling flu like symptoms, it started 2 weeks ago with sudden diarrhoea which cleared up slightly after a few days but on the odd day I'd get it again and after eating sometimes I'll feel terribly sick and feverish but I can never be sick, I just lay down for a while ans it passes. I also keep waking up during coughing fits in the night as if I've had a drink and it went down the wrong way. Could my peripheral Neuropathy have caused gastric flu/ stomach flu?
Welcome to HCM.The peripheral neuropathy would not cause the gastric flu which can occur due to a viral infection. It would help if you consult your doctor for this problem as you may need medication if the enteritis is secondary to bacterial infection .Nausea, anorexia and asthenia can be due to the flouxetine, discussing this with your doctor may help.Ruling out bronchospasm or other causes of coughing fits is required.
