Prescribed Levaquin, Suffers Severe Pain In Legs, Shoulders, Arms With Burning. Is This Side Effect ?
My father is 73 and was recently prescribed levaquin (around 2 months ago). I am not sure of the mg, but he took 4 pills. Since then he has been in severe pain. His legs, shoulders and arms hurt and burn. We have researched remedies for the side effects of levaquin and vitamin c seems to be a common one. Has anyone heard of this or had any experience with levaquin side effects. He is desperate for some relief.

Hi thanks for using HCM.
The tablet levaquin belongs to quinolones group of antibiotic. They have class effect of affecting on tendons and muscles. Chances of rhabdomyolysis is also there with this drug and Older patients may have an increased risk of tendinopathy (including rupture). Since your father is suffering after taking tablet this is one of the adverse effect and you have to report this to your doctor.
Get done complete hemogram, creatine kinase level, electrolytes, serum creatinine level (Renal function test), Liver function test. Give plenty of fluids. Discuss with your doctor and management based on the results. Can take analgesic like NSAIDs. Hope I answered your question. Wish you good health. take care.
