Prescribed Lisinopril For High BP. Had Pneumonia, Cough, Clear Mucus, Difficulty Swallowing. Antacid Required?
Hello, I had pneumonia twice around February and March and was prescribed Lisinopril at the same time for High Blood Pressure. I developed a cough and after 2 weeks was taken off Lisinopril. Now I wake up in the night with a cough and clear mucus comes up and have a hard time swallowing until II get it all coughed up. However I constantly feel there is mucus in my throat. Last night I read an article about antacids I chewed three tums and it seemed to help. This morning I coughed up yellow mucus. Should I get an antacid, if so what kind?
hello and welcome to HCM, A dry irritating cough is common side effect of ACE inhibitors like lisinopril and since you have been taken away from the same then in all probability you may recover in a week or two.
Meanwhile if you are developing other symptoms like fever and throat pain then it may either be due to an infection or a reflux both of which require an ENT consultation for proper treatment.
You can consume any antacid but kindly do so under proper guidance
hope this helps
