What Causes Belching And Swallowing Difficulty While On Medication For High BP?
My 88yr. old mother suffers from constipation because of a slow motility and she has high blood pressure which she takes meds for. She has been belching a lot and has some difficulty with solids going down her esophagus. Can her heart be the reason for the belching and difficulty swallowing?
Swallowing difficulty is the inability to swallow foods with comfort. Swallowing difficulty and benching may result from indigestion, constipation, acid reflux and gastroesophageal reflux disorder, inflammed tissue in epiglottis or epiglottitis, inflammation of esophagus or esophagitis, esophageal carcinoma, stomach cancer etc.
Some investigations like barium swallow test, endoscopy of upper GIT, abdominal ultrasound, CT abdomen etc should be done to find out the underlying causes annnd then treat them accordingly.
In the meantime, some medications such as domperidon, lansoprazol and lactose can be used for treating belching and swallowing difficulty.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
