Problems With Balance. Ear Infection?

I was just doing some reading on the subject of 'unsteady-ness' :( I find myself stepping to the right to maintain my balance on a regular basis such that others are noticing when I have to grab (or prop myself) in a doorway. Happens standing or walking.
No drugs at all. I'm (age 64) and thinking about physical strength (or the lack of it) or a low grade ear infection (too many hot springs here in Colorado).

You seem to suffer from vertigo, the cause of which can be ear related or cerebellar dysfunction. Ear related vertigo usually is associated with some ear symptoms other than vertigo like hearing loss, tinnitus, fullness of ear or infective causes like chronic suppurative media (in which there is ear discharge) which needs to be ruled out by an ENT examination. The other causes can be because of inner ear problems which need to be ruled out by a battery of tests for which you need to visit an ENT. For cerebellar dysfuction or neurological causes, there are usually other symptoms like weakness in other parts of the body and you need a detailed neurological examination for that. Simple infection in the external ear because of hot spring bathing is not going to cause vertigo for longer duration, though an impacted wax can sometimes give vertigo but not long sanding. Regards
