my husband had a prostate ultrasound tues 10/15
findings
TRANRECTAL sonogram images of prostate meas. 4.3 x5.4 x5.2 cm which calculates to a volume of 63.2cm. the reported PSA LEVEL IS 3.1. A NORMAL PSA DENSITY OF 0.04 IS CALCULATED. THE PREDICTED PSA LEVEL IS 7.5.
IMAGES OF THE GLAND SHOW NO HYPOECHOIC OR HYPOECHOIC LESIONS WITHIN THE PERIPHEAL ZONE. THERE ARE SCATTERED CALCIFICATIONS WITHIN THE TRANSITIONAL ZONE.
IMPRESSION GRADE 3 PROSTATIC HYPERTROPHY. NORMAL PSA DENSITY. NO FOCAL LESIONS CAN BE IDENTIFIED WITHIN THE GLAND.
OK , SO WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?
DOES HE NEED TO SEE A UROLOGIST FOR FURTHER ASSESSMENT?

dear prostate normal size is 20 to 25 gm....
with age its size increases....
this enlargement may be either due to ......
1:increase in amount of tissue(benign prostate hyperplasia)
2:presence of cancer in it .
PSA test is done to confirm weither it is cancer or not ?
as PSA level is normal,so it is not cancer ...
benign prostate hyperplasia ,treatment option depends on size of prostate ,and symptoms and urodynamic study....Grade 3 means moderate enlargement ...
yes you should concern a urologist for urodynamic study ant treatment option ....
