Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Purplish Bruise On Baby's Inner Thigh. No Redness, Dots Or Rashes. Matter Of Concern?
We noticed a purple ( bruise Like) area on our 11.5 month old daughter s left inner thigh. The area was about 4 inches in diameter. She had it during bath and after. Her right leg seems to have some slight purple as well but barely noticeable. It did not appear to bother her when the area was slightly pressed. No redness, no dots or rashes . Not fussy, in fact fell asleep 10 min later for the night. Took pictures and the purple area is very noticeable. Reason to be concerned?
this purplish patch should be evaluated as it may be a sign of what we call as late Hemorrhagic disease of new though (late HDN), please don't get confused with the name as it does affect in later infancy though rarely around this age.
please see if there is any other site she has developed this kind of patch, as it develops at many places subsequently.
get a blood work done like (PT, aPTT, CBC etc and if found abnormal only a shot of vitamin K will suffice. it will also rule out any other illness related to bleeding or hematoma.
if every thing comes out to be normal you can be at ease.
hope my answer guides you,
wish your baby good health
Regards
Dr. Amit Kumar
