Hello and welcome to HCM,
A history of whipping, whooshing sounds and
vertigo with change in position of the head suggests an abnormality/ disease process in the
inner ear.
The ear has three parts. The external ear, middle ear and inner ear.
Inner ear is concerned with maintaining balance, and hearing ofcourse.
Hearing abnormal sounds is called
tinnitus and is caused by a disease process going on in the part of inner ear concerned with hearing.
Vertigo is caused by abnormality caused in the part of the ear responsible for maintaining balance.
You need to consult an experienced
ENT specialist and get the inner ear examined.
There is a disease called Meneires disease which is characterized by tinnitus (ringing sensation in the ear) and vertigo.
It is caused by fullness of the a structure in the inner ear.
The symptoms are suggestive og Meneires disease, however, clinical examination and investigations will help in making the exact diagnosis and hence plan management.
Presence of similar problem in your mother suggests that the disease is familial.
She also needs to be examined.
Loss of memory seems to be due to different disease process.
It is unlikely to be associated with the ear problem.
Thanks and take care
