Rabies. Bitten By Dog. Taken Tetanus Toxiod, Rabipur. Dosage?
Hi! May i ask how many doses will my two sons have to take to make sure they completely cured from rabies? My two sons age 6 and age 15 were bitten last march 31, 2013 by our unvaccinated puppy dog whose also bitten by and adlut dog a month ago. My sons were given already tetanus toxiod and first dose of rabipur last april 2, 2013 and second dose last april 05, 2013. Our puppy died this morning.

What have you done?
Why not antirabies injections were given on March 31st.
Since your's pet died and I have seen that a young dog ( 1-2 months) is a rich source of rabies virus.
When your's pet was bitten by an adult ( probably stray) dog, you should have taken these injections at once.
Any how time has gone still need not to worry.
Dosage are in this way
1 Bitten day.
2nd third day
3rd after one week of 1st dose.
4th after 14 th day of 1st dose.
5th after 3oth day of 1st dose.
These dosage are according to international level , but I still recommend one more dose in your 's children case that on 90th day of 1st dose .

You deed a very good job by starting rabies immunization 10 days back itself.
As dog died within 10 days of period there are chances rabies infection to the dog.
But you need not worry now as you have already started immunization and antibodies must have developed within this 10 days period.It takes only 7 days to develop antibodies against rabies.
You have to continue rabies vaccination till full course is complete.
They should be given total 5 injections of anti-rabies vaccine on day 0,3,7,14 and 30 days.

Hi you have to give them a minimum of 5 doses of which you have already given 2 doses. The third dose is due on 9th April if not given take it today only. The fourth dose is on 16 th April and fifth is on 30 th April . One more sixth optional dose can be given on 90 th day that is in your kids case July 1st. Take care.

this schedule will be applicable for your both child.
This vaccination given to your child is Post exposure prophylaxis.
complete cure on the basis of vaccination is not 100% sure
so prevention is better than cure
