Raised Heart Beat, Anxiety Attacks, Pain In The Chest. Need Help
Lately I've been having much anxiety because of post dramatic stress due to anxiety attacks I've had and it makes me on edge about so many things in my body. If I feel my heartbeat while laying down it worries me. I try to calm down but it's difficult. I'm attempting to lay down and I had some small sharp pin pains in my left part of my chest and now the left part of my chest feels hot. I have an appointment for a check up on the 30th with my GP but I'm so worried and feel like that will take forever and something might happen before then.
Feeling of heartbeat, pin like sensation in chest, non specific stress etc are part of anxiety disorder. Before going to any treatment I would advise you to get your Hemoglobin, Vitamin B12, Folate, Thyroid Hormones levels checked as abnormal levels of these parameters may cause anxiety in any person. Apart from that ECG should also be done in order to rule out any cardiac cause. Once all investigations come normal please visit a good psychiatrist then. Medicines like Fluoxetine, Paroxetine, Venlafexine etc. are very useful in anxiety.
Behavior therapy and relaxation methods are also equally effective.
Hi,
Thanks for using health care magic.
as per your available history, You are having anxiety disorder most likely Generalized anxiety disorder.
You should also rule out Physical cause of anxiety like low hemoglobin, or thyroid dysfunction or vitamin B12 deficiency.
Meanwhile you can go for stress managment and relaxation techniques like yoga, meditation or self relaxation.
keep faith on yourself and dont get more stressed out.
thanks
Hello..
Thanks for your query. You seem to manifest a myriad of anxiety symptoms. You would require assessment for anemia, hypertension and thyroid disorders to rule out any organic causes of anxiety. If these causes are ruled out, a psychiatric evaluation is necessary to assess for anxiety disorders. The therapy would include:
1. Anti-anxiety medication like SSRIs
2. Psychotherapy techniques like CBT/Cognitive behavioural therapy
Yoga, meditation and breathing relaxation exercises are also useful. Wish you good health.

You must see a Psychiatrist
I presume it is post-traumatic...
Your chances of improvement are excellent.
You may not have significant heart disease...
If it is, it will not be limited to lying down / it will not be 'pins and needles'
If in doubt go to ER
Subsequently, EKG / HOLTER (24 to 48 hour ambulatory monitoring) / ECHOcardiogram / TMT (Treadmill exercise ECG) / LABORATORY work-up – may all be done for your reassurance. The treating doctor may suggest them depending on need, based on his assessment of the situation.
Take care
Wishing speedy recovery
God bless
Good luck
Hello....
Thanks for your query. What you describe are characteristic of panic attacks. However, you we need to rule out cardiac pathology, thyroid disorder as well as anemia before undertaking a psychiatric evaluation for anxiety disorders. The treatment would include:
1. Anti-anxiety medication like SSRIs
2. Psychotherapy techniques like CBT/Cognitive behavioural therapy
Yoga, meditation and breathing relaxation exercises might also be beneficial. Wish you good health.
