Rash On Chest, Redness, Irregular Rings, Lack Of Energy, Had Thrush In Groin Area. Is It A Virus Or Pityriasis Rosea?
My son has a rash on the upper part of his chest . The rash is not elsewhere. It is not regularly dispersed and varies in size of rash but is not raised or scaly. One of the areas has a sort of irregular red ring and the skin inside is more of a dirty yellowy white than a red. He is lacking in energy which as he is a student is not unusual but concerning. He also has for the first time that I know thrush in his 'groin area'. It is not itchy or uncomfortable. I suspect he has had a virus in recent months as twice now he has complained of not feeling well, once when he was away at University and once when he came home. He is a tall and slim lad, 6 foot 4 inches high and about 11 stone. Could it be Pityriais Rosea. Is there anything he should do apart from having good food and exercise and plenty of sleep ...I can provide these during the holidays but I suspect it all goes awry when he is at University. Many Thanks Mrs I Sinden
Hi Mrs Sinden, Thanks for writing to us. from the description it seems, your sun might be having a type of eczema known as seborrheic dermatitis. It involves face, chest upper back underarms groins and scalp with red itchy lesions covered with pale yellow greasy scales. this variant if eczema has fungal etiology. The treatment requires use of topical steroids, antifungals, sometimes oral steroids too. I would advise that you meet a dermatologist nearby for clinical examination and management. regards
