Rash On Underarm, itchy, yellowish And Clear Discharge.

I have a small rash on my underarm over 2 weeks ago and about 5 days ago it became so itchy so I scratched it. I realized it was not a good idea, it flared and it oozed clear to yellowish substance and it may have caused the area infected to be larger. I am not sure if this is haileyhailey or eczema . This is the first time it happened on my underarm. I just tried to apply dermovate cream to the area. Hope it will go away soon. How did I get this rash and how do I get rid of it soon? This might affect my work

Hi,
It looks like eczema - contact dermatitis.
Eczema outbreaks are often triggered by certain foods, deficiencies, cosmetics, jewelery or environmental conditions.
Fragrant soaps, lotions with alcohol and perfumes, excessively dry air, itchy woolen clothing, dust mites, mildew, mold, pollen, dander, latex, certain jewelry and tobacco smoke are some of the most common triggers.
Continue using Dermovate craem to affected area. But as there is discharge from rash, indicative of secondary bacterial infection;you will need dermatologist appointment.
Doctor might prescribe you cream containing both steroid and antibiotics. If severe infection present, then oral antibiotic may be required.
Along with drugs take care of following things.
1]. Not to spend time in an excessively dry environment.
2]. Bathe regularly, but not excessively, and use lukewarm water instead of hot or cold water.
3]. Avoid using harsh soaps as they aggravate the skin and also cause further dryness
4]. Oatmeal is useful for eczema treatment both as an alternative to soap and also for baths. Have an oatmeal bath, with oatmeal powder added to your bath water before a soak.
5]. Avoid wearing tight and restrictive clothing. Cotton is a much better option.
6]. As with all other skin conditions restrict your intake of any processed or refined foods and junk foods. Smoking should also be avoided.
Take care.

Regards,
Dr. Neelam.
