Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am just a bit concerned, my son has had diarrhea off an on for the last month. He is feeling fine, but as of today has had liquid stools. This happened about two weeks ago and before that he had it twice over two weeks. At the beginning of the year he had campylobacter. Apart from needing to suddenly go to the toilet he is feeling fine. The last time this happened (two weeks ago) he had it for about 5 days. I was just about to take a sample to the lab to be tested - but the diarrhea stopped. I am wondering why he is having a lot of diarrhea. It has all been just liquid. Do you have any advice on this.
Hi. Thank for your query. Noted the history about your son having frequent diarrhea over one month, needs sometimes to rush to restroom, sample could not be sent to the lab as the diarrhea stopped. Since the problem is lingering for about a month, I would advise you the following: Send the sample of stool available irrespective of consistency and send for three days. Tests of blood : CBC, thyroid functions, liver and kidney functions. Ultrasound of the abdomen. A course of an antibiotic, metronidazole, probiotic should solve the problems along with the treatment of any condition diagnosed ion investigations. This will solve his problems.
