What Causes Frequent Diarrhea?

I think that I am having colitis. I have not had this before. I am having persistent diarrhea every few hours. This has gone on since Monday. I thought I merely had diarrhea, so I took Imodium yesterday but stopped the medication hours ago. The stools are getting lighter. No blood. I am waking in the night every two hours with cramping and more diarrhea. Can I take some pepto bismol ? I have not eaten since yesterday noon.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello, my name is Dr.Dorina Gurabardhi. I understand your concern.
Some advices that I can give to you are:
-Take medicine such as bismuth subsalicylate or loperamide, which are available as liquids or tablets.
-Stay hydrated. You should drink at least six 8-ounce glasses of fluids each day. Choose fruit juice without pulp, broth, or soda (without caffeine). Chicken broth (without the fat), tea with honey, and sports drinks are also good choices.
-Instead of drinking liquids with your meals, drink liquids between meals. Sip small amounts of fluids often.
Hope my answer was helpful, if you have any other questions I'll be glad to help, thanks!
