Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a 53 year old female who has been belching for about 2 hours. It stopped briefly when i ate some potato salad. In the last four hours I have had 3 glasses of wine and a small hamburger. When the symptons started about an hour ago I took an over the counter medicine called a acid controller. It is still persisting. What should I do
Consistent belching could be an indication of an undiagnosed gastrointestinal abnormality (eg. gastrointestinal reflux disease, acid reflux, etc.) or in some rare cases even anxiety. But in your case it seems to be related to a gastrointestinal condition. For this reason I would recommend a 24 hour acid monitoring, an endoscopy and a complete blood count. Further investigations may be required but will be recommended by your doctor.
Hope this helps.
Best wishes.
