Recovering From Pneumonia, Has CKD On Levaquin. Have Problem While Urinating. Has Anemia And On Procrit. Suggest?
My father is 80 years old and he is recovering from pneumonia, has CKD stage 4 and was diagnosed with MDS a year and a half ago (in remission). He has had more trouble urinating since his hospital adm for pneum, for past 2 weeks having trouble expelling the urine (retension), was having pain while urinating but is improved. He is still on Levaquin 500mg qod due to his CKD. His UA showed no WBCs or leuks, but he has 5-10 RBCs. He also has low platelets of 20,000 (from the MDS), anemia which he is getting Procrit 20,000 q week for past year. He has had BPH but never had to be on meds.
Your father should complete the treatment for pneumonia and take antibiotics in adequate dosage and duration as is being prescribed by his treating physician as he has a weak immune system in view of his other ailments and advanced age. He should also do some deep breathing exercises. For all other problems, he should consult resp[ective specialist and follow their advics.
