Hello, I suffer with tonsillitis on a regular basis and am fed up with visiting the doctors to hear the same thing every time as each time I go I am promised to be referred to an ENT and this isn t the case as I have returned many time and this still hasn t happened. I can t afford to go privately as even just a consultation is expensive. What would you recommend?
1. If you have a history of more than 5-6 attacks of tonsillitis per year over 2-3 years and if you have anterior pillar congestion, enlarged tonsils and palpable non tender Jugulo-Digastric (JD) lymph nodes, you have Chronic Tonsillitis.
3. You must understand that a tonsillectomy will reduce the number of attacks but not eliminate them as the throat contains a lot of lymphoid tissue (such as the lingual , tubal tonsils, pharyngeal bands and so on) besides the tonsils which cannot be removed.
4. You should see an ENT Specialist. Meanwhile try gargling with medicated gargles such as diluted Betadine of Chlorhexidine. Avoid foods that worsen the symptoms. Avoid cold, spicy and sour food. Turmeric in warm milk at night just before retiring to bed is a good remedy.
Regards.

Recurrent Tonsillitis. Recommendations?
Hi, Thank you for your query. 1. If you have a history of more than 5-6 attacks of tonsillitis per year over 2-3 years and if you have anterior pillar congestion, enlarged tonsils and palpable non tender Jugulo-Digastric (JD) lymph nodes, you have Chronic Tonsillitis. 2. Tonsillectomy is an option in such a situation. 3. You must understand that a tonsillectomy will reduce the number of attacks but not eliminate them as the throat contains a lot of lymphoid tissue (such as the lingual , tubal tonsils, pharyngeal bands and so on) besides the tonsils which cannot be removed. 4.
